I’m floored this is from 1990. I know computers were still really expensive back then, but I at least thought by then, college students were using computer labs for papers.

I do like that it fits in your lap though! Growing up, when I had a typewriter, I wish mine fit in my lap.

That typewriter doesn’t look that comfortable to type on when on one’s lap — she’s using her left hand to hold it in place, afterall. But don’t forget, this Canon Typestar 110 wasn’t an old-fashioned typewriter, it had an LCD display and spellchecking, so it did suit what college students who didn’t have ready access to the computer lab (didn’t you type your papers in the middle of the night?) wanted from a computer word-processor: this could change up fonts and sizes, could do special characters, and spellcheck. Plus three things the computers in the lab didn’t necessarily have: portability, 24-hour accessability, and letter-perfect print that wasn’t in lousy 8-pin dot-matrix on fanfold tractor-feed paper.
