In extreme circumstances, Gingivitis can progress into Periodontal Romanization.  Collagenases will attain sentience and after a golden era of science and philosophy, reach a decadent phase in which they’ll force osteocytes and enamel hydroxyapatite to battle for their amusement in arenas carved from their former homes.  “Emperor” cells will levy taxes on crystalline calcium phosphates and cause gum cells to starve to death as they participate in lipid orgies with dentin slaves and gorge themselves on saliva, erecting golden statues in their honor instead of the traditional, modest plaque.  Often the entire tooth has to be removed, and even then the replacements, be they Holy Dentures or Ottoman Implants, will see corruption and wage war on other teeth.
